Richard Elfyn Jones is one of Wales’s most versatile composers whose music has been performed by Bryn Terfel, Rebecca Evans, Dame Gillian Weir, Jack Brymer, John Scott, Llŷr Williams, the Choir of King’s College Cambridge, the Britten Quartet and the BBC NOW.

The performance (of Brangwyn Festival Overture) revealed a score of real merit: the suitably festive Allegro is preceded by a Lento of unusually impressionistic sensitivity and harmonic delicacy. A Prom must, if not heard before at the South Bank.

SUNDAY TIMES

What emerged strikingly was Richard Elfyn Jones’s integrity of purpose and the sense of an affirmation not just of the Welsh soul but of life itself

MUSICAL OPINION

I must write to say how much I enjoyed your Quintet. What an unusual combination!

SIR MICHAEL TIPPETT

It (the Clarinet Sonata) is a really good work. It should get a large number of performances.

Richard Elfyn Jones was an oustanding tutor, and an extraordinarily intuitive musician who could turn to the piano and replicate a work he'd heard only once.
